From 2012 to 2018 I ran DMLab at Drake Music, an experimental programme I set up to prototype accessible instruments for disabled musicians — bridging musicians with makers, technologists and developers. Work included supporting Kris Halpin with the MIMU Gloves, working on the "Kellycaster" guitar with John Kelly, and a bespoke conducting baton for James Rose.

That work continues through Orchlab, run by the London Philharmonic Orchestra in partnership with Drake Music, now in its third three-year phase. I've been involved from the start, building at least seven or eight physical instruments — including a violin, a harp, a set of timpani, trombone and oboe — plus six web-based instruments, playable at orchlab.org/soundmakers. I'm commissioned every year to build something new.

I still take on freelance instrument design work, including developing the MUGO with The Amber Trust, Sounds of Intent and the University of Roehampton and being critical peer to Kris Halpin in his role as Artistic Director for Music at Sense.
